Posted by: ringverse on Monday, October 24, 2005 - 09:46 PM
[Topic:-NotPolitics]
Am moving the site to it's new webspace tonight, insh'allah...

Any erratic behaviour is as a result of me screwing it up...

Anything pointing at www.blairwatch.co.uk will continue to work, once it settles down. Anything pointing at www.ringverse.f2s.com/ won't.

Will post the new RSS feed details here as soon as I have got it all up and
working.

When you can't read this, it is working.

Alabama 3 and Population Demographics...?
Posted by: ringverse on Saturday, October 15, 2005 - 01:03 AM
[Topic:-NotPolitics]
I do get out, sometimes, and Saturday night is Alabama 3 night.
In Preston of all places! I'm not sure if the band, or Preston are ready for this...

Oh, and the population demographics thing? Well, it's more of a city stereotype...
From Orlando's tour diary, in today's Independent:

LIVERPOOL
Larry delivers his standard opening line:
'Hello Liverpool! This one's for all the housebreakers in the room!'
The entire crowd roars.

OXFORD
'This one's for all the housebreakers in the room!'
No reaction; just the sound of 600 people collectively wondering if they've remembered to turn on their home security systems.

[MP3s]
Are you ready for some country...:-)

I'm not going to be posting much for the next week or so. Have got some new webspace sorted, and I'm busy moving the site. Having a bit of a rebuild and redesign as well, so I'll be occupied with that for a while.

So I'll leave you in the capable hands of Bedblogger, DavidK and Quarsan...

In Other News: Who blagged my boulder?

Regional strife hits the Swiss Cantons as a historical stone, the Unspunnenstein, symbolising Swiss national unity has been stolen from a hotel in the central Swiss city of Interlaken where it was on display.

Fingers are being pointed towards the Jura hills: "It is obvious the Unspunnen stone is again in Jurassian hands."

Tonight, a continent holds it's breath.

Hunter S Thompson's Ashes ''Scattered'!?
Posted by: ringverse on Sunday, August 21, 2005 - 02:51 PM
[Topic:-NotPolitics]
Hunter S Thompson's final wishes have at last been observed, and his remains have been fired from a cannon across the valley behind Owl Creek Farm in Aspen.
I very much doubt he will rest in 'peace', but I hope he at least gets some rest...

Here's one of my favourite bits, from The Great Shark Hunt:
I like to eat breakfast alone, and almost never before noon:

Anybody with a terminally jangled lifestyle needs at least 1 psychic anchor every 24 hours, and mine is breakfast. In Hong Kong, Dallas, or at home -- and regardless of whether or not I have been to bed -- breakfast is a personal ritual that can only be observed alone, and in a spirit of genuine excess.

The food factor should always be massive: four Bloody Marys, two grapefruits, a pot of coffee, Rangoon crepes, a half-pound of either sausage, bacon or corned-beef has with diced chilies, a Spanish omelette or eggs Benedict, a quart of milk, a chopped lemon for random seasoning, and something like a slice of key lime pie, two margaritas and six lines of the best cocaine for dessert ...

Right, and there should also be two or three newspapers, all mail and messages, a telephone, a notebook for planning the next 24 hours, and at least one source of good music ...

All of which should be dealt with outside, in the warmth of a hot sun, and preferably stone naked.

– Hunter S. Thompson (July 18, 1937 – February 20, 2005)

Shell Shocked

[Topic:-NotPolitics]
I'm still shocked by the shoot to kill policy and questions continue to mount up. If he was such a risk that he had to be killed, why was he allowed on a bus? Was there a warning? Witnesses say no and so on. Pretty much everything the police have said has turned out to be untrue.

The best response comes from the pro-war Tim Haines in the Times, who writes:

But, if al-Qaeda has created an atmosphere in which an ordinary person can have five bullets pumped into him by the police, and society shrugs its shoulders, then the terrorists have already won a modest victory.

Blushing Blair and the Brazilian
Posted by: quarsan on Sunday, July 24, 2005 - 08:26 AM
[Topic:-NotPolitics]
How much does it cost to keep Tony looking good? Almost two grand is spent on cosmetics, including blusher cream. Well he's going to need that seeing how unabashed he is.

Meanwhile he does have something to be ashamed of. The police are now permitter to carry out extra judicial killings, but so far, only of non white people.

Let's take a look at the police statments:

He was 'directly linked' to the bombings according to Ian Blair - false
He had emerged from a house that was itself under observation - later changed to he left a tower block (how one confuses a house with an eighteen story tower block is something we just don't understand)
Officers shouted out a warning - no witness has reported hearing a warning, only a cry of "Get out, get out", which doesn't seem to be the most appropriate warning in the world

They have now admitted they have a secret shoot to kill policy and, according to their secret rules, Officers do not have to identify themselves before firing but it "should be considered".

This is not just wrong, it is incredibly stupid

How are you going to gain the support of ethnic minorities in the fight against terror when it's open season on anyone 'looking guilty' or 'wearing a jacket' or, crime of the century, 'running' ?

Has it not crossed anyone's mind that, when record levels of racial violence are being recorded, a young man seeing several burly people running at him, might think "Oh God, it's the BNP coming to give me a kicking" and run away?

If you weren't white skinned, would you feel comfortable getting on the tube today? Or would you feel terrorised, by the bombers and the police?

Not been posting for a few days, I have hit a major post election low point. The news is just making me angry, or depressed, so I'm ignoring it for a while. If any readers want to fill in, feel free...

Alabama 3: Outlaw Country Acid House Techno Blues comes to Liverpool
Posted by: ringverse on Saturday, May 28, 2005 - 05:33 PM
[Topic:-NotPolitics]
It's the morning after the night before, the night we took bedbloggers mum to the Alabama 3 gig in Liverpool for her 60th birthday...

And she loved it!

I have yet to see a poor show from Alabama 3, and they didn't disappoint last night.
The band played for almost two hours, but it felt like it was over in 2 minutes.

Covering material from all their albums there was something for everybody, and the crowd, flushed with the success of Wednesday's football, lapped it up.

Old favourites such as Mao tse Tung Said, Hypo Full of Love and U Don't Danse to Tekno had the crowd bouncing, Woke Up This Morning, the theme song from HBO's 'The Sporanos' never fails to get things going, and new numbers like Bruce Richard Reynolds and Terra Firma Cowboy Blues set the place on fire.

The Reverend Dwayne Love was straight enough to deliver a great performance, preaching to the masses in his own inimitable style; the congregation of the 'First Church of Elvis the Devine UK' is growing stronger all the time...

Larry Love's voice seems to have got even gravelly than last time I heard, giving Tom Waits or Captain Beefheart a run for their money, and Rock Freebase continues to take Blues Slide guitar to a new level.

The star of the show has to have been Zoe, aka Devlin Love. I've seen her sing with the Larry Love Showband a couple of times, and once seen and heard, she is never forgotten. Strutting the stage like Vaudevile bordello diva, she took the crowd by the scruff of the neck with R.E.H.A.B. and Honey in the Rock, and her performance of Up Above my Head was worthy of Sister Rosetta Tharpe herself ;)

If you have seen the band before, you can be assured that they are as stunning as ever on stage, if you haven't, you should.

The new A3 album Outlaw came out this week, along with the single Hello I'm Johnny Cash [streaming video], and has had mixed reviews among some fans on the message boards, but The Press and Media reviews have been overwhelmngly positive.
I think they have come up with the goods again.
The more I listen to it, the more I love it.

It has been a magnificently convoluted journey from the eclectic mix of 'County Acid House Techno Gospel Blues' that was Exile on Cold Harbour Lane, through the darker country tones of La Peste to the Techno beats of Power in the Blood and the pure acoustic blues genius of the Mashville volumes.

Outlaw is an altogether straighter album, rather than throwing everything in the melting pot for each song, they have got things a little tighter, and maybe more accessible to the unconverted?
I guess we should leave the last word to Larry[streaming Audio].

A Non Political Post...
Posted by: ringverse on Tuesday, May 24, 2005 - 10:48 PM
[Topic:-NotPolitics]
Haven't been blogging much the last few days.
Apart from being beset by technical problems with my network at home, I have hit one of those periods where you get terminally disgusted with politics, and politicians.
One of those 'need to get out more' periods....

I heard Caroline Mutoko, the African Breakfast Show presenter, being interviewed on the radio tonight on my way back from work. The interviewer was asking her if she was considering moving from a successful career in the media, to a career in politics:

Never, why would I go into politics where I have to beg for media time, and hope that you will turn out for my press conference, when i can do such a splendid job [on the radio] from Monday to Friday?
Why?

From Bill Clinton to Tony Blair, Politics is a virus, and once you are infected, there's a part of you that must die, for you to go on.

Her reply said more about the lowlife we read and write about in one sentence, than could if I wrote all night.
So I'll shut up for now.

Normal Service will be resumed shortly.

Meanwhile, I sugest you go out and get hold of this :- )
